In the April/May of 1990 Don Matthews and his lab-coated cohorts made scientific history. Described by Adelaide Advertiser's on-the-spot stocking-up-on-the-facts investigative journalist Samela Harris as "one of the longest of the long-running April Fool stunts", the Kaser Gold Project generated wrath among coin circles, attracted the attention of the Controller of the Royal Australian Mint, and yes, succeeded in replicating the most historic scientific experiment ever conducted.
